Referencing 1960's modernist architecture, the design for Aēsop Southland pays homage to the catenary arch form that became a constant in architectural projects of the era, and indeed throughout architectural history as a whole. Visitors to the space move through a series of arches which peel away to reveal the functional elements of the store, left and right, as they progress through the space. Clad in a new material developed through a collaboration with expert craftsmen, the rendered arch finish comprises recycled bricks which provide a tactile finish and enveloping colour to the space.
